The Siletz reservation is quiet, most days, especially the graveyard near the tribal offices...Bud Lane is the only remaining fluent speaker in the native language of the Siletz tribe in Western Oregon. Working with a team at Swarthmore College, Lane recorded a Siletz Dee-ni talking dictionary. Until earlier this year, it was only for tribal use, an internally focused cultural project. Then, in February, the tribe allowed Siletz to go global, on the web.
