LANGUAGE
The main highway through the Siletz reservation. Bud Lane is the only remaining fluent speaker in the native language of the Siletz tribe in Western Oregon. Working with a team at Swarthmore College, Lane recorded a Siletz Dee-ni talking dictionary. Until earlier this year, it was only for tribal use, an internally focused cultural project. Then, in February, the tribe allowed Siletz to go global, on the web.
